Tenant asked to pay 5 lakh to stay at Peddar Road property by Bombay High Court

Taking a tough stance in an eviction case dating back 41 years in Mumbai, the Bombay high court asked the tenant of the property to pay to their landlord a sum of Rs. Lakh per month to continue staying at the disputed premises at Peddar Road.

This sum was asked by the court as an interim relief to the landlord. Last year, the same court had asked the Tenants to pay Rs. 1 Lakh per month as interim but after going through the valuation report, the court revised the amount to Rs. 5 Lakhs till further orders are passed in a case.

The court also exclaimed that it cannot put a punitive amount in such cases.
